Paw Patrol:
Leandra, Michelle, Rik and Daniel
We are a group with many different properties. Consisting of four people, we bring together two fundamentally different worlds. From the world of design, our experts are Leandre: Interactive media designer and Michelle: Polygraphist. From the world of technology, Rik: Expert IT systems and devices and Daniel: Electronics engineer contribute their knowledge. We would like to give you an insight into what comes out of this combination.

We started Monday morning with a relaxed breakfast. Immediately afterwards, the teachers made us take a 15-minute walk up the mountain to find our workplace for the coming week, the protestant church of Savognin. When we finally arrived at the top, after three different detours, we were introduced to the weekly programme and the first tasks. The anticipation for the following week grew. We set about the first task. In teams of two, we could choose between the doll's houses with Smarthome and the IoT Cube for programming. In the afternoon, we hit the slopes for the first time. With a big appetite, we listened to a presentation by the CEO of MeteoMatics, Dr Martin Fengler, before dinner. He told us how to collect large amounts of data about the weather and how it is visualised. Finally, we rounded off the evening with a delicious dinner at the hotel.

Today was the second day of our project week. At 07:30 in the morning we started our day with a delicious breakfast. A short walk through the snow and we were already at the church. We continued with configuring and installing the smart home. After a short while, we sat down together with another group of two who were working on the IT cubes. The task was to connect the cube to the house and let them interact. The gateway worked with Node-RED where we programmed action. Afterwards we had lunch together in the hotel where we eat rice Casimir. For dessert we got a delicious cream slice. In the afternoon we went to the slopes to enjoy the fresh snow and ski down the slopes.
In the evening we were whisked away to a mountain hut where we ate fondue and were given a little insight into Swiss folk music.

On Wednesday we started with another delicious breakfast. We then met at 8:30 am in the church to continue working on the data collection. This involved reading out data with the help of a LoRa outdoor antenna and sending it to the program. We equipped drones with GPS trackers and evaluated the signal coverage. The drone flight was very exciting, and some great shots were taken too. The designers were given the task of filling out the website on which they read and making it a little more creative. We all had lunch individually. In the afternoon on the slopes, we again enjoyed very good weather and the fresh mountain air.
In the afternoon, we decided to spend our time sledging. With a group of about 10 people, we hired sledges at the middle station and enjoyed three wild descents. The last descent in particular was a challenge, as it involved a snowball fight.

The last full day had dawned... The morning began with vizualizing all the data we had collected from the previous day's sledges. Our Cube had done a great job. Thanks to the LoRa coverage of the outdoor antenna, we had reception overall the slopes and were able to visualise our runs on the map with measuring points. We then received two inputs on the subjects of geofencing and creativc thinking. Now we started tobuild a tower as high as possible out of spaghetti and flips. We were actually supposed to apply what we had just learnt about brainstorming and thinking ahead. It didn't work for everyone, but we had a lot of fun. We also started with the “end product” of this week: developing our own IoT Product. The afternoon was spent on the slopes for the last time, where we met up again and again and were able to spend one last time skiing together in fun groups. Like every day, we all met at 7.00 pm for dinner. We spent the rest of the evening with more laughs than ever.
Friday 26-01-2024
With Friday the end of our week started. After another rich breakfast we continued working on FOKI, our product idea. FOKI is a tracker in form of a bracelet that helps teachers on class trips to avoid accidents by checking the distance between kids and teachers. We developed a soft- and hardware concept and created an app prototype as well as a physical model. At 10:00 am all the groups presented their work.
We now all start our way home. Either by train or by plane. Thank you to everyone for this great Week! See you in Rotterdam.
